About the Book

This delightful volume by a renowned expert on ethnic humor presents the choicest of Irish poetry, limericks, anecdotes, jokes, and words of wisdom. Here we meet the Irishman working on the Erie Canal, on the railroads and in the mines, and as he achieves high political office. Yes, it's all here, just as it has come down to us through the ages: the loving, the fighting, the drinking, the praying, the struggling, and the laughing.

"An outrageously funny collection of anecdotes, jokes, one liners, and limericks."
--Los Angeles Times

"A marvelous compilation that will surely entertain."
--Booklist

"A great book for the Irish!"
--Spiritual Book News

About the Author

Henry D. Spalding, a native of New York City, was a reporter for the New York Mirror and the Journal. While a member of the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., he was an accredited White House correspondent. In the 1950s he moved to Los Angeles, where he was active as editor and publisher of Deejay, Disc, and Top Ten--all music magazines--as well as of Talent News, a show-business trade journal.

Mr. Spalding's Encyclopedia of Jewish Humor was issued in 1969 and has since gone through many editions. This was followed by Encyclopedia of Black Folklore and Humor, Joys of Irish Humor, and Joys of Italian Humor, all of which have established him as one of the leading experts on ethnic humor.
